Building Protection


Deep excavation for large buildings can break into the water table, leading to flooding in the basement as happened with the Carrefour department store in Taipei.  Capiphon™ is laid on a bed of sand, covered with cloth before the concrete base is poured.













 Smaller Projects

This house sits on the side of a steep hill in Brisbane where water not only runs down the surface but also pours out of the rock strata wherever it is cut into.  The owner planned extensive additions to it by building extra rooms underneath the existing house.  He was acutely aware of the tens of thousands of dollars his neighbours had spent trying to cope with the constant flow of water.










Capiphon™ was installed directly onto the ground before the concrete slab was poured.  It was also used behind the retaining walls before they were backfilled.  There have been several heavy downpours since installation with no sign of water entering the building.

Capiphon™ can also be used in paved and garden areas around houses to protect from rising damp.

This modest house was subject to the effects of both surface drainage and sub-surface seepage. 








The ensuing rising damp had left a rime of salt deposits on the foundations as well as the walls.  The fluctuating soil moisture levels had also led to doors and windows jamming.

An expert in damp proofing gave a quote based on his usual practice including digging a trench some 450 mm wide alongside the house , tanking the foundations and walls with bitumastic paint before inserting core flute to protect the paint from aggregate, laying slotted pipe, covering with geotextile fabric.  The quote was $5,527.

When informed about Capiphon™ he revised his quote down to $3,522, a saving of $2,005!


 The savings came mainly from labour and aggregate.
